The swell guys over at TEAM HAMMER, our fellow ZUDA COMPETITORS, have been kind enough to draw up some wicked cool “Fan” art with our DOC IMMORTALIS character!
![]()
In return, I’ve done up my own mash-up drawing combining The Good Doctor Immortalis, with the beautifully violent CALVIN!

Never before seen in ZUDA, folks! Competitors cross-promoting! Collaboration! Fun!
This, I declare, is the month of the exclamation point!!

We’re STILL in that ZUDA competition
Though I fear I’m losing interest in winning this popularity contest. Unless we win, then I’ll change my mind.
If you haven’t, please go check out our comic and vote, oh, and please make us one of your “favorites” as well. Apparently that helps in the rankings. http://www.zudacomics.com/node/1051
Besides that, I’m currently working on some new HvB strips, writing Issue #2 of VENT, and we’re looking at developing a horror comic anthology for an independent film.
More news soon!
I need a catch phrase,

I’m not going to post the negative review of DOCTOR IMMORTALIS I found, because, well, there’s enough negativity going around the world. And I’m even harder on myself than he was, so why add to my psychosis?
Here’s the GOOD review!
We’ve moved up to 7th in the ZUDA competition! It’s all thanks to you guys!
We still have a lot of time left to move up even further, so please, tell your friends! Get out the word, get out the vote!!
DOC IMMORTALIS - At Zuda!
Thanks!

This is the point at which my sub-conscious does its magic, and completed alters the landscape of my initial idea. In a flood, a whole introductory scene came fully formed into my mind in the car yesterday. It takes my loose concept of a Barbarian epic in the vein of Conan and alters it to something cooler, more complex, varnishes it with depth and layers, all while maintaining that initial thread of inspiration.
My working title is now “Barbarians at the Gate”. It has both figurative and literal meaning; this story is about a destructive force at work, entropy in the form of a Barbarian warrior. The end of eras. The passing of time. The death to old ways.
The opening caption goes like this: “1 Million BC. The supercontinent of Pangaea”, and with that, arrows fly across a battlefield. Savage warriors follow the hail of missiles, engaging a different kind of army, one in armor, with more sophisticated weapons. But they are outfought, outmanned, and undone by the savagery of the leader. He wades through the soldiers, enters the squat walls of the primievel kingdom, and amid brutality, murder and rape, he claims his reward, his prize: On an alter lies a simple crown of white gold.
And by touching the crown, the Barbarian Warlord transports himself, and the story, to a higher dimension. On an infinite plane of pure white, two beings who resemble grey aliens dressed in ancient Persian-inspired garments mixed with baubles and trinkets of floating light, await the arrival of a figure. On this plane, the Barbarian appears as a creature of black and blue flame, swirling with arcane patterns, he descends. The two beings - angel-gods - offer up boons, unbeatable weapons, and the promise of gold, to the Barbarian, in exchange that he practice his finely honed skills of killing and conquest upon 12 individuals scattered upon this ancient land. They are said to all pose a threat to the Barbarian’s world and his way of life. He agrees, his hunger for treasure greater than his bloodlust even.
“Set me upon the path, show me who it is that needs slaying, and know, their blood shall be SPILT.”
And with those words he begins his 12 quests.
This brings the story into a whole new place, layers on mythical qualities, and gives it a “hook”, all at the same time, and it came to me all at once. I know this land has many gods, tribal deities, but there is one main god, “C’aan Bel”, the Unifier. A riff on the name Campbell, one of the great literary figures of the 20th century, and a unifier of myths and religious themes. I know the aliens are lying to the Barbarian. I know they want this age of man to come to an end.
But I don’t know WHY yet, and this is where the hard work begins…
MORE TO COME.
