I feel like we’re scrambling to get everything done for this Small Press Idol Competition. Voting for Round 2 Starts on April 1st, but I’m not sure we’ll be ready for April 1st. Sometime shortly after that I hope.
Anyway, that’s why there’s no new HvB for the past few weeks. More soon!

I have been digging on Venture Bros season three and am very much looking forward to the new season; read the latest news from Jackson Publick *here*. It seems they are following in the footsteps of the Sopranos, BSG, and the Shield by splitting the season in half. Whatever the case I am looking forward to June, or thereabouts.
I read a preview of the GI Joe movie tie-in game today and I’m not sure if the game or movie will be any good, but Scarlett and the Baroness are freaking hot!
*SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT*
Finally, don’t forget you can buy reasonably priced, highquality 50foot merch *here*

Model sheets, model sheets, model sheets. I’ll be very pleased to be done with these model sheets for the Small Press Idol competition.
Working on our main players… Agent Donald Cain, The Associate, is our main character, already revealed in the “pitch stage” of the competition. We’ve got several more characters in the works; they come in an array of gray-area morality and will be fun to explore. We’ll also touch briefly on who The Nine Unknown Men are, where they come from, and why they exist at all.
Gotta get back to drawin’.

We are hard at work on a great many (maybe too many) projects at the moment and we need your help! The first half of Hulk vs Bizarro season two has been written and is under production as we speak. The second half…not so much. This is where you, gentle reader, come in. We enjoy plumbing the depths of comics, cartoons, and pop culture for ideas and characters and want to hear who you want to see. Catman? Wendy Harris and Marvin White? The more obscure the better! Let us know, we look forward to hearing from you!

I know, I know. “Where’s the new Hvb strip?” “Where’s issue #2 of VENT?” “What do you DO with your time?!”
We’ve taken on quite a load of work here. Let me break it down for you:
1) We have a bunch more HvB strips written, I just need to draw them. Quality takes time! Time which has been being eaten by our other projects…
2) We’re developing character model sheets and bios for the 2nd Round of Small Press Idol, where our Supernatural Spy Thriller, THE ASSOCIATE, is competing. We’re simultaneously developing an outline for the “Zero” issue of said series, which would be the 12 Page Comic we would produce for publication should we enter the 4th Round (Fingers Crossed. Don’t forget to vote. We will remind you!)
3) We’ve written an 8-Page comic Short Story for a Horror Anthology that will be produced to help market and expand on the story told in the independent film “SWEATSHOP”. Another thing we need to start fleshing out and start artwork for. The good news is, we’ve submitted the Script to the film’s director and writer and they loved it!
4) We have 2 other stories we’re working on as well, you may have heard us mention them here before. One is a Western, the other a Barbarian Fantasy Epic. Both are wicked fun. More on those as soon as we can.
As a bit of research, and to start some “buzz” or whatever the catch phrase is nowadays, I’ve been thinking about starting a contest of some sort. I’m really curious to see who the folks are that are visiting our site, and make it worth everyone’s while for checking out our stuff. How about I offer up an original piece of artwork, character of your choice, to the first 3 people to email us with the subject “Gimme gimme”?
Any takers?

As a drawing exercise, I’ve entered a little contest over at the Comic Book Resources Forum called Project CBRunway! Much like the Project Runway reality show, each week the contestants are given a challenge, and must design a costume that best fits the criteria given. I got through round one with a risky move - the challenge was to design a non-powered, plain clothed Private Detective, and I did a Pulp Inspired, masked detective with a watch that may or may not have powers.

And now we’re onto round 2!
We are required to design a costume based on someone else’s character pitch.
The pitch can be seen here, and the viewing and voting begin on Tuesday and only lasts until Thursday when the next challenge is given! So get over there, check out the clever art from all the participants, register and vote for me if you like, or even play along at home!

Hey, 50 Foot Fans. Some cool updates today, three of them actually. Usually everything bad comes in 3’s, well, we break from tradition here. These 3 are all good.
First up on the home front: 2 (that’s two, count them TWO, double your pleasure) new HvB strips are up, live and ready to rumble. This is a 2-page 2-parter that breaks into a new format of full comic-sized pages (at least for the time being. Lex Luthor begins to unveil his master plan for the strip! Where will he take us next?! What will happen to Hulk & Bizarro?! What will happen to our lovely creators?! Find out soon!
Read along: HvB 5: Hostile Makeover.
Next up, we’re in a new contest this month, with our newest property called “THE ASSOCIATE”. The Associate is a politically charged, supernatural spy thriller, centering on the Associate himself, Agent Donald Cain. Agent Cain operates as humanities liaison with the shadow world that exists beside our own, and, when necessary, acts as an enforcer. We’re presenting this new idea to the fine people over at Small Press Idol 2009, from Dimestore Productions. Our first round of challenges was the pitch/synopsis and a rough cover design, which were enough to move us on to Round 2. Some of the judges weren’t too thrilled with our initial offering so we’re stepping it up and retooling the art and the story ideas to wow them in the next round. The first round can be seen here. Round 2 begins next month and will be Character Designs and Biographies. We have a chance to win cash prizes and a publishing deal, so make sure and vote! We’ll keep you posted when the polls open!
Thirdly is a fun little contest over at Comic Book Resources forum. A comic book based Project Runway contest! You can go over to the message board forums and check out all the entries, and vote for your favorite. Hint, I go by “mthemordant” over there. Hint, hint. ![]()
This week’s project was “PRIVATE DICKS”, and I did a quick number called DEATHWATCH, The Unknown Detective, a pulp type detective who uses a mask and gadgets to scare criminals.
Vote here.
Well, more soon. Thanks for reading!
Michael
